Getting IT Right
We’ve been doing this job for a while now and one thing that still surprises us is the failure to get the basics right when it comes to IT and the negative consequences this can have on a business.
Training can help when it comes to such simple things as stopping staff from using their deleted items or trash can as somewhere to keep important documents, but very often you need the help and guidance which comes with experience.
We’ve seen loads of networks and servers that have been put together by “a friends son – ‘cause he does web sites so he knows computers” or “my mate who works in IT” or by Bob in accounts because he knows more about computers than anyone else in the office!
These are all fine ways of getting a business up and running on the cheap – but they’ll also guarantee that at some point it’s going to cost a lot of money to correct the problems this approach brings.
That’s assuming you don’t go out of business before the problems can be corrected!
