VoIP and Telephone Systems

Voice over IP or VoIP is a real hot topic at the moment as it allows your telephone system to link-in with software on your PC to give you really neat features such as dial from your contacts list in Outlook, contact information of incoming calls as well as loads of standard telephone system features that traditionally cost a fortune from a traditional PBX phone system.

Voicemail, conferencing, ring groups and free calls between remote extensions or offices are all features that come as standard in VoIP systems.

Not to be confused with Skype, VoIP systems can be supplied as either a software based install, which goes on a dedicated PC or server, or as a physical device.  It’s even possible to have a completely hosted system offsite which can work really well for companies that have temporary or short term phone requirements at multiple sites.

Being able to use either the existing ISDN telephone lines that your business probably already has in place or dedicated ISDN quality ADSL circuits makes VoIP very flexible and easy to integrate into your existing phone systems.

As VoIP can use either ADSL or ISDN telephone lines this also gives your business a better degree of redundancy – if your ADSL or ISDN lines go down the system will use what is available until the full service is restored.

If ISDN quality ADSL internet circuits are used the quality of the calls will be exactly the same as your existing phone system – AND you can benefit from cheaper call rates as calls over the internet can be far cheaper than using traditional methods.

Even if you prefer to have a traditional style PBX or you already have a major investment in a PBX system that you don’t wish to lose, it’s usually possible to integrate VoIP calls into that system so you can start to benefit from cheaper call rates or slowly move fully over to VoIP as your confidence grows in the technology.

The choice is yours and that’s the great thing about VoIP – Choice!
